How to Prevent Sunstroke?

Summary: Sunstroke is the most intimidating condition arising out of the scorching sun and humidity. As it is the month of May, some foreknowledge to prevent sunstroke will certainly prove to be of much help and benefit to a number of persons, especially to those who have to stay long hours outside or under prickly heat.


Given below are some of the home remedies available to prevent sunstroke:

Coriander and Mint Leaves: Make a juice of coriander or mint leaves and drink it with a pinch of sugar. This drink is regarded as one of the easiest home remedies to bring down the body heat. According to Ayurveda, these herbs have amazing cooling effect on the body.
Onion Juice: Onion is known to have multiple health benefits. Its use improves mood, maintains good health of skin and hair and lowers the risk of several types of cancer. In addition to these, onion is known as one of the best remedies to treat sun stroke. Application of onion juice on the chest or behind the ears help lower the body temperature. Even the raw onions in salads make body cool.
Tamarind Drink: Tamarind being very rich in vitamins, minerals and electrolytes, proves to be of great help to maintain the temperature of body. Put some tamarinds in boiling water. Now strain it and add some sugar. Drinking this juice will lower your body temperature.
Aam Panna: Aam Panna is one of the most popular drinks during summer season. Enriched with cumin, fennel, pepper and Kala Namak, this drink is regarded as one of the greatest sources of energy and electrolytes. It is made up of raw mangoes and spices. 2-3 servings of this drink will help maintain the thermoregulation of the body.
Coconut water and Buttermilk: Excessive sweating creates deficiency of essential vitamins, minerals and electrolytes in the body. Buttermilk, being a rich source of probiotics, helps in replenishing the body with essential nutrients. In the same way, by balancing the electrolytes in the body, coconut water rehydrates the body.
Aloe Vera Juice: Besides being rich in vitamins and minerals, aloe vera juice is also known as adaptogens. Adaptogen is a natural substance that boosts the natural ability of the body to adapt to the external changes and stimulates its defensive mechanism. It does also help in staying cool in intense heat.
Plums: Besides being a great source of antioxidants, plums are very hydrating as well. The antioxidants help prevent the internal inflammation that may be caused due to sunstroke. Soak some plums in water till the time they become soft. Mash them thoroughly in water and then strain. Take the drink to make your body stay hydrated and away from heat stroke.
