Modi to Visit US later this Month

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will discuss various issues including India's concerns on potential changes in 1 visa with President Donald Trump on June 26 during his first visit to America after assuming the new administration. The Ministry of External Affairs announced on Monday that the Prime Minister will start the US visit starting from 25th of June and said that the dialogue between Modi-Trump will provide a new direction to deep bilateral relations that both these countries enjoy. This will be the first ever meeting between the two leaders of two largest democratic countries of the world.


The Ministry said, Prime Minister will hold official talks with President Trump on June 26. Their discussion will provide a new direction on the issues of mutual interest and strengthening multi-dimensional strategic partnership between India and the US. During his annual press conference last week, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj had said that Modi will raise the issue before Trump.

Both leaders are expected to discuss on the regional security situation including the Pakistan-sponsored terrorism and other international issues. In addition to enhancing trade and enhancing business cooperation, there is also the possibility of defense talks between Modi and Trump.



US Defense Secretary James Matisse has already made it clear that his country treats India as a large defense partner. Matisse had said that the US is exploring new ways to deal with the challenges of rising new challenges, from maritime security to terrorism in South East Asia. Modi's journey is being done in the background of the announcement of the Trump of America's withdrawal from the Paris Climate Agreement. Trump had said, India relies on its participation in developing billions of dollars from developed countries. 

While dismissing Trump's claims, India had said that it did not sign the Paris Agreement under pressure or in the greed of money, but because of its commitment to protecting the environment.
