Spiritual Guru of Prime Minister Passes Away

 Kolkata: Ramkrishna Math and spiritual leader of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Swasthandand Maharaj (99) died on Sunday evening after a prolonged illness. They were admitted to the Ramkrishna Mission Service Establishment, located in South Kolkata from February 2015, regarding age-related diseases. Prime Minister of West Bengal Mamta Banerjee has condoled the demise of Swami Swastandand Maharaj. His condition had worsened from Saturday morning and he was kept on ventilator. His dialysis was going on. Seeing the news of his poor condition, the chief minister rushed to hospital to see him.

 Medical Board was formed for their treatment, in which 16 doctors were involved. According to hospital sources, he breathed his last around 5.30 pm on Sunday evening. In his condolence message on Twitter, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said: "The death of Swami Swasthandh Maharaj is irreparable damage to humanity. He dedicated all his life to social and religious work.


 Significantly, Swami Swasthandand Maharaj was associated with the Ramkrishna Mission at Bellurmath, at the age of 22. In May 2015, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi came to Kolkata, he went to the hospital to meet Swasthandand Maharaj. Narendra Modi had come to Belurmath to become an ascetic in adolescence, but Swamy Swasthandand Maharaj had dismissed his request saying that he needs somewhere else. Prime Minister expressed the sadness Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed grief over the demise of Swami Swasthandram Maharaj. He described the demise of Swami as his personal loss. Modi wrote on Twitter “I had been with him during the important moment of my life”.
